Individuals and society benefit from advances in human genomics, human enhancement and AI and robotics technologies. But these technologies present ethical challenges and have the potential to challenge our values, way of living and adversely affect human rights.
SIENNAaims to support responsible research and innovation by improving knowledge of the ethical, human rights and socio-economic impacts of human genomics, human enhancement, AI and robotics. This will help support ethical and responsible decision-making by ethics committees, researchers and policy-makers by developing ethical protocols and codes.
Trilateral Research is deputy co-ordinator of the project and leads the following work in SIENNA:
Key results of the project include (all three areas):
SIENNA will improve our knowledge and understanding of ethical, legal, socio-economic and human rights impacts of genomics, human enhancement, AI and robotics. This will be an extremely valuable result not only for the scientific research community and research ethics committees, but also for policy-makers grappling with issues in these areas, both in the EU and beyond.
SIENNA will support ethical decision-making through the development of the Codes of Conduct and the operational guidelines and help reconcile the needs of the scientific research community (i.e., to conduct research and innovate) and the expectations and concerns of the public. SIENNA will support high ethics standards and promote responsible as a fundamental tenet of research by advocating the use and adoption of the Codes developed in the project, and knowledge transfer activities.
