Thanos is a qualified solicitor and certified Data Protection Officer. He is a regular member of the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Macedonia, Greece. He currently pursues a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law at Trinity College Dublin. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Arts in European Literature and Culture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
He has worked in diverse professional environments, freelance, law firms, multinational corporate and consulting. He led teams in multiple GDPR Compliance and DPO-aaS Projects, and was appointed as a Data Protection Officer for the University of Macedonia, the General Hospital of Volos and the Hellenic Operator of Renewable Energy Sources S.A. He also trained professionals on Data Protection seminars.
He specializes in Data Protection, but also possesses a solid grasp of Intellectual Property Law, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Cyberspeech Regulation.
Thanos believes in ethics, human centric and sustainable development; Asking if something is legal is not enough. The right question is asking if something is ethical. He is interested in ex-ante approaches in emerging technologies regulation, implementing compliance and ethics by design and by default, and stimulating the public to get involved in the discourse.
His research at Trinity College Dublin focuses on AI and its interaction with the Law, ranging from AI as patentable inventions and inventors, to responsible and explainable AI.
