She is part of the Policy, Ethics and Emerging Technologies (POET) team.
Her areas of expertise include regulation of new and emerging technologies, comparative legal analysis, ethics of new and emerging technologies (e.g., AI, robotics), privacy and data protection (law, policy, and practice), privacy certification, security and surveillance, ethical impact assessment, responsible research & innovation. She has excellent expertise in EU proposal writing and has led and/or contributed to many successful proposal development efforts in FP7 and H2020. She has carried out legal and policy research and work specifically related to new technologies and data privacy, and provides regulatory, industry and policy advice.
Rowena has published book chapters in Policy Press, Routledge, Springer and articles in journals such as the Computer Law & Security Review, Innovation:The European Journal of Social Science Research, International Data Privacy Law, International Review of Law, Computers and Technology, Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, Journal of Contemporary European Research , Big Data & Society, and Science and Engineering Ethics. She is co-editor of Privacy and Data Protection Seals (TMC Asser/Springer 2018).
Rowena holds a Ph.D. in law from the University of Edinburgh.
