Peter Wieltschnig

Peter Wieltschnig is Research Analyst at Trilateral Research.
Peter is currently the project lead for aqua3S, where he provides ethical and legal guidance on standardisation strategies to integrate innovative technologies for safety and security in existing water networks. He is also working to support the HAMOC project on the operationalisation of the concept of human security in a military context.
Peter has a keen interest in international humanitarian law, human rights law and human security, with a particular focus on the protection of civilians in armed conflict and economic, social and cultural rights in conflict and acute crisis settings.

Research Background

Peter’s background lies in legal research, analysis and policy drafting, having worked on projects including: the protection and empowerment of refugees and displaced persons in Lebanon and Syria, the development of due diligence legislation to regulate the arms industry and States’ arms export regimes, the criminalisation of humanitarian assistance in Europe, and the human rights impacts of counter-terrorism legislation in Ireland and the UK.

Peter has an LLM in International Humanitarian Law at the University of Essex. His LLM dissertation concerned the development of military targeting practices to better respect social, economic and cultural rights, with a focus on the protection of infrastructure.
