As part of his work for Trilateral Research, Alan provides data protection advisory services to enable our clients’ compliance with the applicable European and national legislation when processing personal data.
He leads the delivery of GDPR compliance activities for a range of clients in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. These services include GDPR Gap analyses, audits, oversight of Subject Access Requests and Data Privacy Impact Assessments, Data Breach handling, delivery of tailored Data Protection training at staff, management and board levels, policy and process authoring/review, liaising with Data Protection Authorities.
Prior to joining Trilateral, Alan was a consultant with Fort Privacy providing services as an outsourced DPO primarily for clients in the finance sector. His other experience includes academic research on EU funded projects and working for BT where he was a specialist in Business Continuity and Data Assurance participating in major bids for government and military procurement.
In the voluntary sector he acts as a board member for a successful social enterprise and provides training for other boards of not-for-profit organisations.
Alan’s academic background covers philosophy, ICT, finance and business management while his current research interests are in the area of Economic Geography with a focus on knowledge flows linked to the differing perceptions of the economic and social value of data.
Alan earned a Master of Business Administration from Vlerick Business (Belgium) and a Master in IT and Management from Sheffield Hallam University (UK). As well as other qualifications in ICT and finance, he holds the Certified Data Protection Officer qualification from the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland (ACOI). He is a sitting member of the ACOI’s Working Group on Data Protection and Technology where he is involved in academic course development and organising training events for members.
