Dr Ana Valdivia is a Data Scientist at Trilateral Research.
She is working with the Data Science team developing solutions inside the STRIAD project, which aims to develop and validate a strategic risk assessment methodology for identifying Modern Slavery and Child Explotation, through Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques.
Ana possesses more than five years of progressive experience working with data. She has participated in projects with very different goals, from the calibration of a classification model to the visualization of recommendation systems. Her main research interests lie in fairness in ML, computational social sciences, and natural language processing.
Ana is a Mathematician by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2014). After an MsC in Data Science and Computer Engineering from the University of Granada (2016), she started her career on AI for a social good profit.
Her PhD dissertation at the University of Granada (2019) was focused on the application of NLP methods for understanding people’s opinion on social media platforms towards cultural heritage. She was also awarded by the University of Chicago with the Data Science for Social Good Fellowship (2018), where she worked in a multidisciplinary team to identify the main factors that contribute to students dropping out in El Salvador.
Ana has authored several publications and acted as the reviewer in top-level peer-reviewed journals in Computer Science.
