aqua3S Workshop

Market needs on water security standardisation: join the aqua3S workshop

How can we improve the safety and security of water networks, and ensure they are able to respond to dynamic threats?

Water security crisis management requires European harmonisation on addressing the way information is collected and managed at EU level.

The European Standard Body CEN is producing many EU standards to help address these issues. However, the standardisation process with the necessary consolidation approach all over Europe could be considered too slow when it concerns including new technologies which continuously develop with short cycles.

The aqua3S workshop on 29 March 2021 will focus on addressing new solutions and viable alternatives.

The project aims to facilitate the contributions to standardisation committees in bringing market consolidated views on how to harmonise the integration of new technologies such as sensors, drones, etc. into existing standards.

The workshop will focus on:

  • The need for additional harmonisation in standardisation
  • Current standardisation activities
  • Industry and European views on water security
  • Market needs for standardisation on water security
  • Market feedback on legal framework regarding water security

Our role

Trilateral Research assesses the ethical, legal, and data protection issues that need to be considered in the development of the aqua3S system and for the ongoing compliance of the project. We consider potential risks of data collection from multiple sensors and areas by using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and satellite images; and identify the measures needed to respect privacy, ethical and social considerations to avoid unwanted negative impact to societal values or risks to fundamental rights.

Following the creation of the aqua3S system, Trilateral will also generate policy recommendations to improve water security and management.
