Senior Research Analyst / Research Analyst – Policy, Ethics and Emerging Technologies


Trilateral Research, a London-based enterprise specialising in research and the provision of strategic, policy and regulatory advice on new technologies, is seeking to engage immediately a Research Analyst or Senior Research Analyst with expertise in ethics and data protection.

Trilateral Research is a UK and IE-based enterprise, founded in 2004. Our team collaborates across social sciences and technology development to bring insights from each to supporting data-driven innovation. We provide research, data protection and risk management services to private and public-sector organisations, including EU-funded H2020 projects.

The candidate we seek must have experience in writing deliverables and contributing to H2020 proposals.

The successful candidate will have expertise in three or more of the following:

  • Data protection (GDPR, Police Directive)
  • EC ethics requirements
  • Applied ethics
  • Ethical, data protection and socio-economic impact assessment
  • Responsible research and innovation (RRI)
  • Knowledge of cybercrime, tax crime and/or money laundering practices.

The post-holder will be expected to liaise with project partners and clients across the EU and internationally and to deliver high-quality research and project outputs in a collaborative and supportive research-intensive environment with demanding deadlines.

It will be a plus if the candidate has a good understanding of the ethical, privacy and socio-economic issues related to new and emerging technologies of relevance to law enforcement authorities.

The post holder will be expected to write deliverables in whole or in part and to contribute to or lead proposals.


Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Performing research work related to current projects, writing case studies, reports or sections of reports, policy briefs and developing other deliverables as required to fulfil contractual obligations.
  • Researching and writing content for grant proposals and tender submissions.
  • Writing content for peer-reviewed journal articles as an outgrowth from projects.
  • Carrying out empirical research (e.g., interviews) and contribute to the preparation and writing of deliverables (reports).
  • Organising, attending and/or presenting at conferences and workshops, involving occasional travel.
  • Undertaking any other special projects that may be established as a priority by the Directors for purposes of advancing either business development or fulfilment activities.


  • Candidates should have a PhD (or near completion) in ethics, data protection and/or social impact assessment or related field
  • Relevant post-doctoral experience
  • Candidates should have strong, demonstrable writing skills and preferably will have already published papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Candidates should be based in the UK.
